At the young age of seven, an imaginative girl stood on the patio in the midst of a French commune and opened a vault she would never have the desire to close in the future. She was not in France at that moment. She was not tapping her toes against the cobblestones, but was taken someplace else.

To this day, Marie steps into a different realm for each of her performances whether in front of a small group in a Jazz bar or a large crowd at a festival. No matter the size of her audience, she is adamant that they deserve the same energy and the same love.

 

Originally inspired by Classic Rock records, she was floored upon being introduced to Jazz. The harmony and instrumentation changed her perception of music as a whole and bled into her own work, redirecting her to Nancy’s National Conservatory of Music where she would study for the next six years. During that time, she worked tirelessly with numerous musicians and several bands. She founded the Maria Godsinger Trio with which she toured the country twice and recorded a full-length album. She also fronted the well-known big band, the Nancy Ska Jazz Orchestra, all the while composing and later teaching at the Charles Boquet Music School.

 

In 2015, she decided it was time to take her spirit to the states and excitedly began her time at Boston’s world-renowned Berklee College of Music. Currently studying Jazz Composition and Performance, she intends to merge the sophistication of jazz theory with the light-heartedness found in today’s mainstream music; determined to break down the chasm bent between the two industries and build a creative space where they can blend into something even more beautiful. As a vocal member in the artistic community, she strongly believes that, “We have a job that makes us feel alive – and it is our duty to make sure everyone listening feels alive too.” She does not trust that genre-based biases are strong enough to keep the human condition from coming together.

 

A strong character and talent, Marie has dominated in fields such as arrangement to performance; ranging from Classical to Reggae, Funk to French Variety, whether singing her heart out or playing through the brass of her trumpet. She exudes positivity and preaches unity, wanting nothing more than to foster a sense of sincerity, community, and empathy from her stage to the ears and bodies of her audience. She is a mature composer, stunning vocalist, and a shining performer. Marie is on the ambitious mission to prove the splendors and hilarities of life by sharing her stories with the rest of the universe.
